I have a 2006 Volvo xc 90 FWD. The tow capacity is 4000 lbs in the owners manuel. The trailer shop said I can tow a 23 foot boat weighing 5000-5200 lbs b/c the volvo chassis is rated for 5000lbs. I will not be doing any long distance towing. Only about 14 miles to boat ramp. Thoughts...safe? Will the FWD 2.5 pull the boat out of the water at the ramps?

  • XC90 and boat
I have a SeaRay 220 that when fully loaded with gas and water is north of 6000 pounds. I also looked into the option to tow short distances, but Volvo told me "no problem pulling with the FWD XC90, the problem is stopping. Eventhough my trailer has the breaking system, you will still be pushed by a boat greater then 4k pounds.

We had to buy a Ford Expidetion with towing package to pull our little 22 foot boat.
