I am about to replace my steel wheels with Regulus alloys. Can I re-use my bolts from the steel wheels until I can get (afford) some nice shiny chrome bolts?
I know they have a dull finish but don't know whether the length and shape is correct.

:cat: Hi there Wheelnut.

BE VERY CAREFUL

Make sure that the metals do not react with each other. If you have aluminium wheels make sure that the metal on the wheel bolts does not react on contact with each other.

You wouldn't see any reaction. However, you'll see a broken wheel when it is too late.

Get expert advice before changing anything on your wheels.

Cheers :right:

there will be some elecrolytic corrosion, but it would be minor. apply some copper grease to the outside and it'll be fine.

Thanks guys. I will get some proper ones asap, but at least I can get the wheels on. Added bonus - I find that my car has already got locking wheel bolts on it under the plastic trims!
Can't imagine who would want to pinch steel wheels!!!!

Drug addicts in my country will sell your front-gate of your house if it's not properly fitted. (ALL due to the price of steel!)

:cat: Good morning Ampangbear.

Is there a shortage of front gates in your country? :P

I'm just thinking about an export business on the side

Cheers :right:

They could have £900+ worth of tyres attached of course. A (female) colleague got in her company car around 6 months ago (gorgeous 19" alloys with VERY low profile tyres on. THE CAR I mean!), drove off & wondered what the noise was as she drove up the road.

Turned out she'd got into a car that was up on bricks & had NO REAR WHEELS AT ALL & driven 15 to 20 yards up the road before she noticed. Front wheel drive Astra. Vauxhall covered all repair & replacement costs, because they had forgotten to put locking wheelnuts on the car, which is standard spec for all their models with alloy wheels.

The thieves had even stolen the wheelnuts! Lucky she didn't get much stick from her colleagues, including me..... She came into the office to find a toy Astra in the same colour with rear wheels ripped off, left up on 2 lego bricks on her desk.
