just decided to pop down to the local supermarket in the nice new body kit (see my garage) to get some bits and bobs. nearing the shop i slowed down for some reason, maybe intuition, even though the lights were green. i saw a blue blur to my left enough to slam on the brakes and swerve to the right, then bang.
i know volvo's are tough, but she was driving a peugeot 106. her damage: passenger side: headlight, bumper, wing, radiator.
me: passenger side: wing, alloy wheel, lower whishbone, front bumper, indicator, headlight, tyre was sliced halfway in (only noticed when i got home). plus whatever I can't see inside. she drove the mile or so home but the steering was allover the place, and ground somewhere. i hope she pays. she flew out of a blind junction. the pics say it all.

Yikes!

I had my S80 rear ended last year by a girl driving a C class mercedes.

Her damage was bonnet crumple, lights and grill. My apparent damage was just the rear bumper.

The first panel repairer could not line up the bumper properly and left significant gaps between the bumper and the panel. So the car was forwarded to another panel repairer who finally managed to line up things a little better. Not perfect but it was the best panel repairer in the country. I even had them take measurements of the frame to meet specifications.

It is very inconvenient and annoying.

Money is not the only issue, I hope they can put your car right again.

Keep us informed on its progress.

well, they said it's undisputable. she's to blame. but since she hit the wheel it may be a write off. if so, i'll buy her back and repair. if she's fixed by her insurance i'll be happy. the nice thing is her insurance is paying for a courtesy car that's gonna be the same size as mine, not a little hatchback like usual. not a volvo though. probably an opel vectra. still, it's transport.

It's pretty much the way it goes over here as far as car insurance claims go.

We've found out from experience.

Wifes S40 was rear ended at a T junction by a VW Sharan, wife was waiting to pull out. So she was stationary at the time the mpv hit her at around 35Mph.

Luckily she was not hurt at all, although she could have easily been shunted into the path of a truck. The S40 needed a new rear bumper, tow bar and boot lid.
The VW was written off, thanks to our tow bar.

The VW drivers insurance tried telling us that my wife rolled back into the VW.
Stunning eh?

Turns out that this was their only possible scenario to make a "counter claim".

Don't worry about it, it's just the insurance trying for a "knock for knock" so they pay out less.

It won't stand though if she was 100% in the wrong.

It's well worth speaking to your insurance company, and explain exactly what happened. You might find that if they are satisfied the 3rd party is 100% to blame, they'll be prepared to pay for repairs to your car + provide you with a hire car for the duration. Your insurance company will claim all the costs back from the 3rd party.
You will lose your no claims bonus and pay the full premium untill the claim is settled. You'll get it back once the claims settled though. :)

Good luck.

Over here, it is unlikely that your insurance company would claim from her if she is insured and at fault. Most insurance companies have an an agreement amongst themselves to look after their own. I am told, if not for this agreement, they will be sending each other a lot of payments everyday to settle amongst themselves, bascially adding administrative costs to receive and settle pretty much an equivalent amount of money over a long period of time. Their interest would be to determine fault and record against the insured's "no claim bonus".

Are you getting it fixed up at a Volvo garage?
Your insurance will probably try and get it fixed at one of their "approved workshops".
You have the right to get it fixed at any garage you like. You'll need to get a quote off them though.
Looks better on paper too (when you come to sell it), if it's been sorted at a Volvo place rather than some place nobody has ever heard of.

cheers i have a nut left over, i'll sort that. though surely that would cost more? would her insurance pay that much? were i to do it myself, if the chassis's ok, it'll be around £1500 in parts and paint. that's not including the new wing.
i'm actually glad i was hit by a small car. anything sizeable would have caused more damage. just awaiting the assessor from her insurance company. still, i look at her every day and all i want to do is drive. looked on the local autotrader to see if i could find a suitable replacement, but for her age and mileage a replacement would be out of my range knowing what insurance companies pay out for write offs. i fear if she's too far gone i'll be at a bit of a loose end.

I wouldn't worry about the money, it's the insurance that'll be paying for it. We had ours sorted out by Beckland Volvo in Birmingham. The quote came to around the £2800.00 mark, chassis allignment, WHIPS tested, rear tracking, rear bumper, boot lid, towbar + towing elec's, paint etc. The labour cost is what really bumps the price up.
The insurance didn't quibble at all.

We got our S40 back about 10 days after dropping it off.

If you looked at it today, you couldn't tell it had been rammed at all. Perfect job.

If you're not paying for it, (which you won't be), you're better off getting the work done to the highest standard, and who better than Volvo.

You might be stuck with the hire car for a little longer, but look at it this way, you're not paying for that either + you'll be getting a top quality job.

Go on.........Be a Devil!!!!

Stu.

just spoken to volvo. they're collecting the car and repairing her for me. cheers i have a nut leftover. they offered a courtesy car to be billed to their insurance. it was tempting to replace the opel astra they gave me, but two hire cars may be little much! hopefully they'll collect her today and have her back asap. i miss her.
