I have a 2002 Volvo V70 XC Wagon. Yesterday, the visual alarm signal began going off for no apparent reason. It stays on for approximately 5 minutes (as it is supposed to do in an actual "alarm" situation). However, it will keep going off every few hours. Any idea as to what might be causing this and/or how to fix it?

Any info would be appreciated.

Do you mean the red twinking light on top of the dashboard inside the car?

No, the Visual Alarm Signal is the blinking of all lights on the car (both interior and exterior - except for the headlights). The visual alarm normally goes off when the audible alarm goes off. However, from what I can tell, both should go off together when triggered. However, nothing is triggering it and the audible alarm is not going off. It stops when we hit the "unlock" button on the remote control key.

I had a quite similar case. After some checking it was a sensor located in the back part together to the fuse unit that senses the car inclination ( it can be a grey box or a tube ) that had fallen from its clamps. In my case the hazards were triggered but not the horn. In another case, while being in a ski resort, the alarm both lights and horn trigered without any reason. I read other case that the hood sensor was triggering the alarm. Also read that after disconnecting the battery, sometimes the alarms "gets crazy". In that case, the reset is to disconnect the battery again. If so, once you put off the car, wait some minute or so before disconnecting the battery as the computers of the car will do some processing inmediately after putting off the car.
Good luck

I had the same problem on my 2000 V70N
The alarm kept on going off and also reported an ALARM error on computer.
At first the signal horn went off at same time, but after 2-3 days the horn went quiet.
I removed alarm fuse and the alarm stopped going off.

My problem was the alarm-horn (including electronic and battery) itself (mounted just above right front tire).
I changed the alarm and everything was fine.
When dismounting the old alarm i saw that some electronic "stuff" was broken inside.
Price new alarm approx 170 USD

What should you do to find out what is the problem?
-Is alarm horn engaged when you force the alarm to go off?
-What happen when you remove alarm fuse?
-normally the alarm horn will go off until battery backup is empty.
-If alarm-horn is damaged nothing happens

I was wondering why my V70 T5 flashes the hazard warning lights as if the alarm is activated, but there is no sound. In my case the wife had pulled the sensor out of the headlining (Don't ask. Well okay, she thought it was another cubbyhole...) The alarm perpetually went off in silent mode until I got the sensor back into the roof, putting it back the right way helps a lot, so the problem now appears cured. Except for the silent alarm, that is. Doesn't it work through the car horn?
