Anyone know how to release the bonnet if the release cable has snapped?

I can just get my fingers to the release handle under the bonnet but can't seem to pull it hard enough to open the bonnet. I'm guessing it's only the secondary catch that it releases.

Any suggestions please?

I managed to open the bonnet by ...

1) Removing the front grill by carefully pressing down on the top at one side and then easing it forward. This gives you access to the large area in front of the radiator.

2) On the 440 there are two bonnet catches, one at either side. On the driver's side you can see a hefty wire spring that is the securing mechanism for the bonnet catch. This can be released by placing a screwdriver behind it.

3) The passenger side is more difficult to see but behind the radiator (through a small hole in the bulkhead) you will see a similar strong piece of wire which is the equivalent on this side. Again, by pushing against this it is possbile to release the bonnet catch.

My cable had broken near the passenger side anchor so I was able to rejoin the cable with a new bit of cable and an electrical connector - only a temporary repair but to be honest it might turn into a permanent one depending on the cost of a new cable!!! Also fitting the cable looks like a bit of a performance, involving the removal of the inner wheel arch!!

Hope this might be helpful to other folk - I had searched the forum and found reference to destroying the headlight or radiator to gain access. Rest assured this is not needed.

Kind regards
