It seems like when you first start the car a funny sound comes from the dash. It sounds like a dog bark. It seems to come from the A/C and the climate control system. Has anyone else noticed this sound. Also, I have the upgraded sound and the speakers seem to rattel sometimes. Anyone have this issue or any solutions.

Yeah I get that weird bark noise too... it's faint, but it sounds like a robotic little dog. My speakers usually don't rattly too much, and I have the subwoofer as well. The only rattling usually comes from the sun visors rattling against the ceiling of the interior, or it sounds like the back fender body pieces rattle sometimes, but not the speakers.

The "dog bark" noise has been discussed several times. The general opinon is that it is the Climate Control adjusting. Sometimes you will hear it even when you do not have the AC on. It seems as if it may be the vents adjusting for ventalation or cooling. As for Rattles, I have been surprised that I have not noticed any as of yet. I have heard some people hearing a rattle coming from the driver side door speaker, but they have had an easy time getting Volvo to fix that.

Cheers!

Thanks for the feedback. Is there anyway to stop the "dog bark" sound that the climate control is making. I hope the dealer can do something because at some point it gets to be a pain. Same to have such a nice car with such a silly sound.

I'm pretty sure the climate control noise is there to stay.

I have had my S40 T5 for three months now, and it is now making that funny noise. At least I have now noticed it. Was your issue resolved? I stopped at the dealer and they told me that there is a software update that may fix the issue. My makes the noise when the auto climate is on or off and even when the the system is off. Any info is appreciated.

This noise happens in all s40s. It is the ABS system check performed when the car starts moving.

I just picked up my new S40 T5 a couple of weeks ago and have noticed a intermittent fluctuating mechanical noise that is audible from the dashboard. I took the car to my Volvo dealer and was told it was 'excessive damper motor fluctuation' noise. The confirmed that I had the most recent software and 'recalibrated' the system but the noise continues. They now tell me that another software update will be coming out in a couple of weeks and hope that will fix the problem. Anyone else with similar problems or thoughts on this? Thanks.

Try leaving the key in while the car is off - it starts to click like crazy, then you have to turn the key to "on" before you can get it out. It is something to do with the mechanism to keep the key in, because it doesnt have teeth. I love the car, but the noises that it makes are like something out of a sci fi movie (or a prodigy song!)

PHB, I just had mine updated and recalibrated today. It was good for about 10 minutes and it came right back. Have you heard anything back from your dealer? IF my dealer has any answers I'll post. Thanks

About half the time I drive the car the damper motor (or some other motor) is making a constant cycling noise from the dash every 1 to 2 seconds - whoa,whoa..whoa,whoa..whoa,whoa.. - and so on over and over again. This will continue for the remainder of that car trip. My local dealer originally told me a software update was due out soon but then recently told me that they were mistaken and no software update is coming out. I have since e-mailed customercare@volvocars.com and would encourage others experiencing this problem to do the same. I was originally told this is a 'normal' noise. However, I know the noise I'm hearing is NOT normal. I am continuing to deal with my local dealer and Volvo customer care with no resolution yet but haven't given up. I paid too much money to settle for a car making this type of irritating noise. I have asked Volvo to either fix the problem or give me a Volvo that doesn't make the noise. Mine is brand new. This whole situation has been so irritating! If anyone gets a good solution, please post. Thanks! PHB

PHB,

I purchased mine while overseas. I will contact those guys and see if anyone in europe may be experiencing the same problem. I am also staying on top of my local dealer. I agree with you, too much money to put up with that constant noise. My actually makes the 'whoa' noise and now, after calibration, it now makes a noise much like an old man on a respirator. Go figure.

I have an 04 model T5, but drove an 06 model SE as a loaner the other day. THe T5 makes a sound like a dog (woof!) every so often, but the SE sounds like a pigeon (woo woo...woo woo etc) - so constant and noticeable that I mentioned it to the dealer. Cant blame you guys for complaining!

All,

After my HVAC system was calibrated I noticed that it now only makes the noise when the car is rolling. Whenever I come to a complete stop (not very often) it stops the wooo. Anyone else notice this? I have yet to hear a responce from my dealer. The mechanic was suppose to call volvo tech support, can't wait to see what they say. Good luck to us all.

Took my back to dealer on Tuesday. They did the software update which made is sound a little better but not perfect. They said volvo knows about this issue and are writing new software to fix it. They said it will be ready in about three weeks. Hope this info helps

Workaround: Switch to manual ventilation by pressing the apropriate buttons to send air through windshield and dashboard. You will hear the wooo adjusting to fit your settings and after 4-5 seconds will stop. Then switch back to auto and 4/5 times the noise stops. For me anyway.
Tell me if it works for you.

This is my first post. I registered for this exact reason. I keep hearing the same noise. At first I thought it was my windshield wiper motor that I heard from the dash area. But, of course the wipers were not on.

I usually notice mine on start-up then it goes away. Today I heard the noise all the way to work. It's a faint yet irritating noise.

It did stop as soon as I came to a stop in the parking lot and before turning off the engine.

I hear occasional rattles from my upgraded speaker system. I have the factory Volvo system with in-dash 6 disc cd changer at multiple speakers. I only notice that the rattles seem to occur while tuned into an FM radio
