I would just take it back to the folks who worked on it.

I agree with Teminos27...you will have to take it back to the people that changed your oil - thats most probably the point of having it so you take your car to Volvo to be serviced.

Its most probably software/computer related.

Good Luck!

yes the service light has to be reset by an authorized Volvo service department...Until we learn all of the codes ;)

The service info is stored in the ECM

Hi everybody, I'm new to the Volvo-Forums...

I was able to get my "time for regular service" indicator to go away on my 2005 S40 with the instructions from the following page:
http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/chat/phpB...opic.php?t=4123

I had to play around with it a little to get it to work, but after 5 minutes or so I had it. Hope somebody finds this information useful.

My car has just had its last "free" service at the dealer and I when an oil change is next due I will probably do it myself. But I was concerned about how to reset the service message, so this is great information!

Since we are depending upon a link to another site (which could go away) for this info, I am summarizing the steps here on our forum (full credit to the original posters).
    1. Turn the ignition key to position I.
    2. Ensure that the trip display is on T1 and shows some miles (not zeroed out). Press and hold the T1 reset button and wait for the odometer to set to zero.
    3. Turn the ignition key to position II, and watch the odometer.
    4. When the previously displayed miles reappears, release the trip reset button.

I just did this again today with my 2005 S40. My experience has varied from the above instructions. At step 3, I had to release the reset button as the "i" light was blinking. If I held it until the blinking stopped, then the releasing would not clear the message. Also, my mileage never reappeared as stated in step 4.

Also, in a "worst case" scenario, you can always disconnect your battery. That will get rid of the message, but you'll also have to reset everything (clock, radio presets..etc).
