Anybody here used Mobil 1 0w40 in their S40 T5? Does anybody recommend it as my dealer uses a diesel mineral oil of grade 15w40. I am keen to go the synthetic route and have narrowed it down to the Mobil 1.

Yes I use Mobil 1 0W-40 in my T5 S40 year round as the climate here in Ottawa Canada makes it worthwhile (extremely cold winters, warm humid summers). Its a very good quality, all purpose oil. On the other hand, if you live in a more consistently warm climate you might not require this much flexibility.

Used it in my Opel Coupe. Very good oil for SA. Gonna get them to put it in the Volvo on the next service.

Believe so Remy. Car is in for its 40 000km service today, I took them 8 Litres (2x 4Litre Bottles) as they had been using Engen Diesellube 500 15w40 which is a mineral oil. I have been changing my oil every 10 000km as I think in our climate it is better for a turbo engine. Interesting thing I have noticed as well, from around 8000km to the 10 000km between the oil changes that the car starts to use about 250ml every 1000km, so in my mind, clear indication that the oil has neared the end of its usefull life and needs changing. Straight after the change up till around 8000km, all back to normal, and no oil consumed. Only problem with the Mobil 1, where do you find it, I ended up buying my 8 litres from Porsche in Randburg.

I had my mechanic do all of that, dont know where he got it from but thats all he ever uses. Cost a lot of money though.

I only got 3800Km on my car so I got a long way before I gonna change the oil

Okay, with Volvo, you will have to supply the oil. Cost me R636 for 8 litres. U enjoying your T5 so far?

I have owned Opels most of my life, I realy enjoyed them, until I drove the Volvo.
Everyone says its an old-mans car until they drive it.

I must say that it is the most enjoyable car I have ever had. I cant see myself driving anything else, well...maybe an Aston Martin.

Only problem I have is that you cant change the sound, or even hook up an
Ipod.

The iPod integration is a pain, I agree there. I had owned two RunX RSi's before this car so am used to not been able to change the sound and one thing for sure, the sound in the T5 is pretty dammed good after what Toyota was using. I had the optional subwoofer installed, and it is expensive, but WOW, for a factory sound system it is awesome. As for most people thinking it is an old mans car, I agree there. I love the shocked look on their faces when the Volvo has just thumped the GTi or RunX RSi.

I had Infinity Kappa Perfect installed in my Coupe, was disapointed that I
couldnt install it in the Volvo, had to install it in the wife's conquest.
But the sound isnt bad in the Volvo. Still apreciating the power and handling of the car. So much better than the Opel
