Hi all,

I recently bought a brand new S40. After some milage (2000-3000 km) I noticed some noises coming out of the steering wheel and steering system that didnt seem normal.
Firstly, when manouevering, sometimes, there is a pretty loud humming noise when steering from from full left to full right. Like the sort of noise that would come from a problem with the power steering (not sure, but thats the feeling i get).
Secondly, when I push the car into a corner while there is a small anomally on the road's surface and the front wheels lose their grip for an instant, I get a ticking niose coming from the steering wheel. The more the skiding, the more the ticking. It sounds as if there's a loose joint or something.
I believe all this will be covered by warranty and they will fix it for free. I will go to the local authorised workshop today.

Question
1. Does anyone know what kind of checks does the dealer have to do before selling the car? I get the feeling they werent done in mine.

2. There is no first aid kit supplied with the car. I dont know about other countries but I thought it was a regulation in europe that all new cars should come with one.

Any advice welcome.

I am not sure about the "humming" when steering form Left to Right but if I take my S40 into a skid, the "traction control" takes action and a pulsing noise can be heard. That is the ABS trying to stop the car from loosing traction. In the U.S. the first aid kit is optional (and I have a much better one ) so I did not get that.

Cheers
