Hello everyone,
I am a new member of this forum. I have a Volvo 440GL with 110 000 kms. Recently the car has following problem. When I first start the engine in the morning and drive a short time, there is always noise came from front wheel area, after driving for a while , the noise disappered, I have asked the wheel mechanic to inspect the wheel and he didn't find anything, now the noise become louder and louder. Also I noticed that sometimes when I drive the car , the red ABS alarm suddently flashed, sometimes I had to stop somewhere and restart the engine to let ABS disappeared. Could anybody give me some advices on these issues ? Many thanks. |

Are you sure its a wheel, i have had similar problem and it turned out to be the water pump bearings. When the car had run for a bit the bearing heated up and the sound dissappeared.

if its the water pump it will definately need replacing. Does the sound only appear when your moving?

Yes, only make noise when I start moving, no sounds when the car is idle.

You need to have the wheel bearings, driveshafts and suspension/mounts carefully checked, since they are the most likely source of a noise that only appears when the car is moving.
The ABS light couls be caused by a loose wire, a faulty sensor or. God forbid, a faulty ABS unit. Get it checked out by the mechanic who checks the wheel bearings etc. Good luck. BB :thumbsup: |
