I'd like to hear your oppinion on this issue..

Well it's like this.. I've been thinking of installing a bov in my v40 t4, but my mechanic says that it would interfere with the air flow sensor since the airflow would change and that it may cause engine to get weird. The people down at the shop where I was planning on buying say that the bov would have absolutely no impact on the sensor or the engine behaviour..

Now.. does the '98 v40 t4 have that mass airflow sensor or whatever it's called or not and will it cause problems unless i get a mod chip configured for the change aswell or something like that?

I'd really appreciate any comment and/or idea!!

I've seen MANY BOVs installed in the T5s. No problem...

Are the difference in the air-flows of the T5s substantially different from the T4s? I think not.

Thanx for the reply!

What year and model of t5 are we talking here? The old T5's or the new s60 and s40/v50 t5's?

What about the talk about the requirement of a 2-stage bov?

It was a 1997 855 T5, registered in 1998.

However, I am not sure of the requirements though.

But one thing I am confident is that he had to mould and weld a new 'mouth'/adapter to the original hose at the radiator, near the battery... and not at the metal hose atop the turbo unit.

2000t4: could you post some pictuers of it? is it one like this

- although this particular one in the picture is a recirculating one (I'm looking to install an atmospheric one)

or just a perormance replacement one for volvo, like this one?

ampangbear: I'm only worried about the engine behaviour, installation is done by the tuning garage so everything necesarry would be done by them.. hopefully..
Since I'm looking to buy a new car in the near future I'm just looking to rice up my old volvo a bit and I'd like it to run smoothly until it's out of my hands.. I don't want too many complications with it, that's why I'm bugging so much..

No worries, dude...

Originally, the bov is already installed but you'd notice that the sound eminating from it is subtle...

Aftermarket BOVs are typically loud (:haha:)... I would have installed one, if my wife did not threaten to cover her face with her hands whenever she's inside the car, and I go like... "Kpesshhh....Kpeshhh...."

A blow-off valve/dump valve wont interfere with the mass air-flow sensor. Otherwise everyone who got an upgraded ECU/intake or air filter would have problems. The mass air-flow sensor "reads" whatever amount of air is passing by.

Looks nice. :)
Wonder how's the sound like...

Custom-piping would be a good thing, too.

+1 to that.
-----------------------------------
Is your Upper IC pipe aluminum if so have the BOV adapter welded there. I have a 1999 s70 awd with a BOV attached to the Upper IC Pipe. I have had no problems with it. I love the sound as well.

You have have to use more washers if your BOV you get uses washers or use a different spring, but any shop should know this and can help you with it.

For example mine uses washers and they tried like 5 to see how it reacted, the car bogged down. I am using like 18 washers and it works fine.

how did you go about attaching the BOV to the IC piping since it is rubber?
