hello guys,
i own a 2000 s80 non turbo for 3 yrs now. i love this cars even though it has costed me an arm and a leg so far. i bought it in 2003 with 54,000 at 58,000 lost tranny, volvo replacement tag was 3000. since then nothing major. last month i took it for a timimg belt at 115,000 , i told them to check the car while its there , they did tune up, timing belt, oil clogging cleaning and power steering hose, pwsteeering reservoir, brakes still at 8mm. bill was almost 4.000 $
i still owe a bit on it and now all lights lit up like christman tree. stc, brake, abs, then check engine light which stays for couple of days and goes. the other light disapear when i turn the key on and off. i drive a lot, like 110 miles a day, they change last time too my etm (covered by them , no charge on me). what do you think it is? guys, the car doesnt stall, it flies, i tinted the windows, nice original paint, rear spoiler, the car looks great, no one think it is only 2000. if you recommend dumping it, what would you go with, i only drive 6 , no 4 unless turbo charged, and no more volvo, i am hurt guys. please advise a confused man, should i keep it till my loan expires, ( in 2008) or what shall i do. is it gonna be another 1000 or 2000. i appreciate any output from mod and anyone. tx ,jay, massachussets

I say keep it...three years with no probs. That tune-up was alot, but find out what the electrical prob is. Even if u did sell it, u have to fix it first.

If all the lights stay on after starting, try wiggling the key. The electrical portion of the ignition switch have been known to wear and cause these types of problems. With a few simple hand tools you might be able to do this part replacement yourself if needed.

Sorry to hear about your woes.

The timing belt can be a costly process but that is actually a normal maintenance process rather than a failure. All used cars will require this replacement. This is why you are paid a used car price for your car (as opposed to a new car price).

The 2 major expensive issued of this S80 are
- ETM
- Transmission

Looks like you already have this sorted out.

Hopefully the other electrical ones will be minor

tx poop bunny,
the repairs were big, the second hose for fuel tank, new pulley. it stayed for like 5 days at volvo, plus my oil clugg was bad, it kept my rev low and get oil light and message saying , no oil pressure when i stop at a light or slow down. now after their work its awesome. but man tranny was painful. i learned a lesson though, research a car well b you buy one

thanks all
jay  :57:
