OEM Ipod adapter appears generic and will fit all S60, S80, V70, XC70 models. The kit comes with Ipod Owners Manual and The installation manual (posted) and instructions are pretty good as you can see. I have posted additional picture for those who are interested in attempting this installation themselves.

You can see 4 cables on the installation manual but only 2 is required depending on whether the car has NAV or not would determine which 2 cables. These cables are only necessary for vehicles that do not have an existing CD changer.

The OEM Ipod adapter is basically a rectagular black box with a long white ipod cable coming out of it. It has 2 inputs, a power socket and a DIN type socket which is the same as the ones on the Volvo CD changer. Since there is only one AUX input behind the Volvo stereo, you can only use the ext CD changer or Ipod adapter. Not both.

If your car has an existing CD changer at the back, installation is much easier because that wiring prescribed by the manual already exist. Steps 16 through to 27 on the manual can be eliminated. You can interchange the DIN and power from the CD changer and connect it to the Ipod adapter. Should you sell you vehicle, the new owner will have the option of using the existing Ipod adpater or to reconnect the CD changer. This just leaves
1. removing the centre console steps 3 to 6
2. rear seat cushion sill trim step 7
3. seat belt step 8
4. routing the Ipod cable to center console step 13 to 15

The first pic from my Custom Ipod Center Console Housing shows you how to remove reccessed CD caddy in center console to access 2 screws beneath.

Installation time: about 60mins for vehicles with existing ext Volvo CD Changer.

If you are happy to have your Ipod adapter sitting in the boot, no installation is necessary as you do no have to run wiring into the center console.

If you do not have existing cables and need to access the stereo, additional pictures can be found here (make a small donation if you found the link helpful)

to overcome that I use a switch select box [Radio Shack etc]

And I just velcro it and my IPod to my Radio Shack CD player anti vibration platform [long since defunct for that purpose]

It sure aint pretty but hey it works for ANY car

Do I have to purchase the OEM Ipod adapter from a dealership, or can I order it online somewhere? If so do you know where.

Try ebay or google.

I bought mine from Stamford Volvo on ebay (transatlanticmotors). I understand they are a genuine Volvo parts distributors anyway.

Works best with Ipod Photo or previous generations.

OK, I have a 2000 s80
I used the USA spec interface, after everything is installed and working, I am getting feedback (a high pitched wine or squeel) when my car is in drive and mostly when accelerating. I thought it might be because of my ground (that I wasn't completing the circuit), but I changed it by attaching it to the chassey underneath the carpet by the drivers seat, a good distance away from my cd player. I also thought it might be alternator feedback, so I changed the power source to an aux 30 on my fuse box, so that now it has its own seperate power source. I am stumped, and am getting tired of ripping out my dash only to be more pissed off when the squealing wont stop. Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated

Will the ipod adapter work with my 1999 s80 stock radio? I currently have the HU-801 deck which has a 4 disc cd changer.

What you have is a ground problem. Check and make sure you are on metal, use a magnet, then remove the paint in between your wire and the frame. I used to do installs for a living we did that for all our grounds, we used a small wire brush attached to a power drill to remove the paint.
