hi there, can anyone help me? i have a 440 si 95 model with the CVT auto-box. as i was parkin up, i put it in park whilst creeping forward slightly. when i went to start it again, it wouldn't turn, then the starter would engage when the key was in position 2. Upon re-trying the alarm LED comes on. I have tired pressing 'unlock' on the key fob, but it still won't turn. I have also tried to move it out of park, and into neutral, thinking that i may have pushed the gear selector back. ANY ideas?? please help, its my only means of transport. would disbleing the alarm and immobilisor work? is there anyway i can re-align the selector if it has moved???

I look forward to any responses.

cheers

Sonny

Hi Sonny, sorry to hear about the problem.

CVT is a specialised subject. There's a chap at the Volvo Owner's Club - George Dickinson - who knows a great deal about CVT. Might be worth you contacting him via their website.

Please do let us know how you get on.

cheers BB, i will look them up. I have asked around others, and have been told it mite be the inhibitor switch, as the car rund fine once started, but sometimes won't start in Park (P). If i leave it in N (neutral) and leave the hand brake on, then it starts up fine???? Could it be the inhibitoer guys?? Any help on that one??/

If the car will start & run in N and when driving the transmission runs & sounds fine then yes, it could be a fault with the inhibitor switch that is stopping the engine turning over in P.

Thanks BB, could you tell me where the inhibitor switch is located? is it under the gearstick cowling, or on the gearbox itself?

cheers

Not sure on CVT but if it's the same as the 4 speed auto box, the switch would be screwed into one side of the gearbox. Should have at least 2 wires coming out of it. Look near where the selector is located on the gearbox.

Best of British.
