Anyone here knows if the S80 1998 - 2003 chrome grilles are interchangeable with the later model 2004 - 2006 ones?

Anyone have a price and source?

I was in the dealership and saw the grille. The vent is square and larger. Looks a bit plasticky but had an nice off black titanium look to it.

I'm going to paint part of the grille maybe black or dark grey...I haven't decided yet. I did a very quick rough paint mock up of a jpg file first just to make sure it will look ok and seems to look smarter.

I'll post more pictures when done.

Here is the rough before/after jpg mock-up.

The saleperson was new and did not know. The showroom was also separate from the parts division which I can find out anytime but did not bother.

To be honest, although the 04-05 ones look better, the chrome ones are a heck of a lot more rigid. Plus parts here tend to be prohibitively expensive (often 4x more than USA even after freight and exchange rate). So I did not bother checking.

The chrome ones start from about US$150 new (that means in NZ it would be about $1000) and I expect the new ones to be about that price.

I figured at that price I'll paint mine for now.

Since you reside in the US why don't you give
Hammersley Motors a call
(434) 385-5225 or 385 6226

I'll send them an email and I'll post the result here if I get it, unless you find out first.

OK Paint Job done...

What do you all think?

Got an email reply from Hammersmith. Price is $189. Still no confirmation on whether it will fit earlier S80 models.

I think it probably would but am not sure, as I saw an ad somewhere else for a chrome that came with a claim that it will fit all S80 models. If chrome will fit all, one would expect vice versa would be true.

:cat: Hi there Rembrandt.

Definitely Anagoni of Italy. A true form a texture and style over elegance.

Definitely Classical over Baroque.

What can one say?

Visionary perhaps?

I've just woken up. Coffee might change things. :)

Cheers :right:

Do you mind If I copyyou? I'm having my whole front cap repainted from the dealer and was wondering what to do with the old grill. This may be what I'll do. Did you just spray paint it? Did you have it off? How easy is it to get off and back on?

Hi there

:00000732: Please feel free to copy.
They say imitation is the best form of flattery. :bwekk:

However I would request you put before & after pictures up here so that we can all admire it.

I had the grille off when I painted it.
Took me about half an hour but probably much quicker if I had to do it again.

First, take a photo of car from the front before you begin. (see above)

Look into you grille and locate 3 clips at the bottom.
Put a screwdriver inside the grill and press hard downward on upward curved lip to release clip, meanwhile pulling the grille out with fingers (you may need to loop a cord around it if your fingers are large).
Start on one side first, then centre and the last end.
When you have successfully pulled one side out you have to keep the outward pulling pressure on the grille otherwise it will go back in and lock itself on the clip. Proceed to do the other 2. When you have completed the bottom part, the top part is still locked in with 4 more clips. Put a bit of wedge at the bottom so it does not slide back in while you are trying to undo the top.
Open the bonnet. On the centre part you will see reusable plastic rivets that hold the plastic panel that the grille is attached to. Pop out the centre of rivet with sharp knife and the rivets should come out easily.
Once the top rivets are out you can access the top rivets on the inside. Just bend that panel to open enough of a gap to stick a screwdriver in to undo clips.
When all the clips are undone the grille should slide out easily.

Masking probably took about 20 minutes. There is a line where the chrome ends and the matt insides of the grille begins. I masked the chrome edges and diagonal chrome emblem. I sanded the vertical grille lines only slightly. I applied 3 coats of paint at an angle to penetrate the gap of the vertical grille. I used matt black because the car was metallic grey and I wanted to contrast the grille color from my panel color. Had my car been another color I would have used Graphite Grey Metallic Volvo color code 427 year 1999. Some Volvo sites call the new grille the egg-carton style grille, I understand they come in a similar color to above or matt black. S80 Volvo Color chart here.

Clark01S80T6: No. the blue S80 with spoilers at the back was not my car. I just wanted to do a photoshop mock-up of how coloring the grill black would look. So I just looked up ebay and got a stock photo to simulate black painted effect. I did not want to go through the trouble of painting the grille then find out that I didn’t like it, and then perform the painstaking task of removing the paint.

When dry remove masking and re-fit grille. This is the easiest part.

Take a photo of the after job, and post here!

I just got a spoiler for my 2000 S80 T6 with the brake light from Spoiler Depot. I put it on myself (easy to me). Spoiler Depot factory painted with my paint code. I cost me with painting, freight and all about $259. I love it.... some folks said not to do it because they think the S80 looks better without. But I definetly disagree, this car looks awsome with it on there. When the brake is applied, the spoiler brake light and the brake lights of the car make a cool and uniform pattern on the back of my car. The S80 should definetly have a spoiler. Spoiler Depots in my oppinion looks lots better than the OEM, sort of similar but a tad different for the good for sure.

I am not a fan of spoilers. Then again, to each their own.

Like Auckland says...lets see the pictures!

I know this is going to sound back woods (I am from Arkansas ya know), but I have yet to learn how to take a picture and put it on the computer (Please don't laugh)! Hell, I just got this computer about a year ago. I know it has the capabilites of posting pictures, just I never have done one. First, do I need a special camera? I have a Mini DVD camcorder that also store pictures on this chip you plug in (Once again, If your laughing at me, you better stop :P ). Second, How do I put them on the computer for you guys to view? I would love to learn how to start posting pictures, I've done a lot of things to my Volvos that could help some people and since i just know had the front painted, I would love to show you guys. If anyone has the patience, send me a how to on posting pictures, from the very very begining to the end. Later!

Hi mikeys

Sometimes it may help if you tell us what model camcorder you have and what inputs you have on your computer. If you are not sure, you can can always take a picture of the sockets of your computer and post them here. (….already laughing)

OK serious stuff…

In the absence of any information, I’m going to make a few assumptions (which may be wrong) and them you can tell me.

I’m guessing the removable chip on your camcorder is some form of SD card (memory) that when you press a button on your camcorder it will take a picture and store it there.

When you bought your camcorder, it would have come with some wires. One if this wires will connect your camcorder, and the other to the USB port of your computer. Both ends are different so I suggest you try plugging around until something fits. As long as you don’t use brute strength you should not really break anything.

At this point I might add, reading the Camcorder manual will be a good idea.

You may need to turn your camcorder into like a picture playback/preview mode (instead of record/capture mode). When you turn it on with the correct mode, Windows XP (another assumption here) will automatically detect the presence of your camcorder and prompt you to select something like Microsoft Scanner Photo thingy. Select this and it should show you a preview of all the pictures you have taken. Click/tick yes to import your pictures. Chances are that it will import into your “My Pictures” under “My Documents” folder from your SD card.

When you are ready to post you just reply like normal….but look out for “Add Attachment”. Click on “browse” to find the picture you want to show us (Most likely under the same folder you saved your pictures in)

If all else fails, offer the geekiest looking kid with the most pimples in your neighbourhood some lemonade (tell him you squeezed the lemons yourself, he won’t know the difference) in exchange for showing you how to do this.

Good luck!
