How long is the break-in period, according to Volvo and, how do they recommend one drives their 2006 XC90 during that period?

According to my dealer, there is no break-in period any longer. I still took it easy for awhile though.

Drives: 2005 XC 90 2.5 AWD Tow/Nav
My dealer tells me that the "proper" breakin period is 15,000kms (8,300 mi). Gas mileage is still dismal, 12 mpg city & 18 hwy. Other than that trouble free so far with 21,000 kms.
