Engine RPM sensor - no RPM signal - or faulty signal

The Turbo models in 89, have a hall effect sensor in the distributor (I think). Is your car a turbo?, if so check that sensor.

Otherwise check all wiring, clear the faults from the ECU memory and try starting you car again let us know if it logs the same fault code again.

Also check all sockets on all looms under the bonnent your be suprised how bad these can get.
