Hello all,

Question about the oil cooler on our S70 T5. Does the oil cooler cycle oil through only when the turbo is active? Or does it cycle oil at all times?

Reason I ask - the dipstick has grey clumps of oil. First I panicked thinking it was a head gasket.

Then, I thought a bit - the car still has the same power levels, coolant and oil levels are not going up or down.

Did an oil change - the oil that drained was usual black color.

Coolant pressure tested OK as did compression test.

So - if the grey clumps of junk are in the oil cooler how do I get those flushed out as well?

thanks!

As far as I know... the oil cooler is in-line with the rest of the oil system. I don't think there's a thermostat or check-valve for the cooler, once it gets hot. Not sure tho. The clumps... doesn't sound good and yeah, a flush of the oil system sounds like a good idea. Hope that helped a little. :-/
