hi,

just noticed a patch under my car. suspect an oil leak - is there a suspect part that normally goes on the S80 T6 - i know garage repairs can take forever!!!

thanks for your help. i only just sorted my emissions problem...

Most likely the PCV oil seal which is behind the intake manifold. This is notorious for leaking. When mine leaked, it ran down the right front of the frame almost underneath the PS resevoir. I also had a similar leak in the same area a couple of months later and thought UH O.... PCV oil trap seal leaking again but it was only the power steering hose that needed tightening. Good Luck man!

thanks to all my oil posts. shouldve known the guy was abit dodgy when he sold me the car. he kept offering to pick me up from the station but i really really wanted to see the car parked in its usual spot and cold start the motor. i turned up at the address but couldnt see the car...low and behold he'd driven to the station waiting for me and then returned when i called him to enquire where the car was.

this was bad news cos i couldnt check the tarmac beneath the car for signs of leaks nor could i note that the car takes some convincing to start. im quite annoyed by being duped by something that im all too aware of.

ah well. i love the S80 T6 tho - just wish it wasnt messing me about!

by the way, are the following bits easily viewable:

1. turbo oil return lines
2. pcv oil seal / box
3. power steering hose

My 99 T6 also leaked from the PCV seal, it sprayed through the dipstick all over the inside of the hood, it was a nasty scence.

not expensive on parts but labour intensive

The turbo return lines can be seen from under the car. Remove the sump cover and shine a light up the back of the engine block. You will see two lines wind there way down to the block. There are two flange gaskets by the turbo and two o ings where it comes into the block. You buy the o rings as part of the oil sump or ing kit for about US$20. There is only two bolys to undo on each flange and then you pull the line out of the block. the main problem is that acccess is a nightmare as you would expect. I was talking to the volvo mechanic and they said they remove the right axle (on a right hand drive car) and this gives access to the right hand side at least. You could try accessing from the top I suppose but would be tricky.

I did the oil pan o rings recently and it was such a major job I couldnt face the turbo return lines job even though with the sump off it would have been easier.

The power steering lines are also visible from below and much easier to access. Check the colour of the oil on the ground. If it is thin and red or green its probably power steering or transmissionotherwise if its a bit thicker and grey/black it will be engine oil.

thanks! im so fed up of my cars playing up. i imported a Toyota Supra Twin Turbo from Japan last year and it had loads of problems. I finally sold it after spending literally weeks out in the cold changing suspension etc. i also drive an old Vauxhall Cavalier and recently replaced the fuel tank. hope its the power steering bit f thats the easiest job. i think its dark liquid - i wonder if its worth putting an old white painted wooden plank under the car to check the colour...

I know what you mean..there seems to be a never ending list of problems with these S80's. I'm at the point of deciding whether i should quit mine or just buckle down and work through the list of jobs and get it running sweet.
