Hi:

I have read all relate articles that I could find in regards to my tranny problem.

My car is a S80 T6 Auto.

I find that in 1st gear (or reverse) the gears do not engage properly. I first discovered this trying (I stress trying) to get the car out of my garage. I have a slight gradient and teh car rolledd out of the lat garage properly, but when it hit the slope the car stopped. I reversed into teh carage and tried a littlle faster... it got furhter up the slope, but then ROLLED BACKWARDS!!! I managed to get it out after racking through the gear selector several times, but it happens far too ofter,a dn when it does you can litterly floor teh car and it will still roll downhill!

I have taken the car to "the best" auto mechanics in town and they promptly told me I don't know how to use an auto and that this is normal!

My Knowlede of Auto transmissions is non existant, however I assume there is some form of clutch system. Is it possible that the clutch is history?

(I have also checked, the car is not in winter mode, and is also not is limp home mode)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

:cat: Hi there FOrdProbe.

I understand that the gearbox in the S80 is actually the General Motors gearbox used in their front wheel drive cars like the Cadillac. I am yet to see anybody list any problems with the gearbox itself. It is usually the support system like switches, sensors etc which give up the ghost first. Also, there may have been a computer update required for your particular unit.

For those reasons alone-I would suggest you go to your local Volvo agent and ask them to check it. We have Scandinavian Motors in Auckland-where I have all my servicing done-I find them excellent. Unfortunately, I don't know if they have a Wellington branch.

Hope that helps rather than confuses further.

Cheers :right:

Man.. never knew an aucklander to look after an Wellingtonian...

Thanks, I had read that a few S60's needed a software upgrade.. I'll get the car back soon from the shop a few other things need to be fixed like the 4 stacker in dsk does not work and the auto dipping mirror has leaked fluid...so they can attack it again...it needs to be re booked...

Can you beleive they loaned be a Suzuki Vitara 2.0 V6... I have never driven such a hunk of junk in my life ( and i have a 1989 Corolla 4 speed manual!)

Thnaks again for your help.
