Hi,

I've just bought a 99 T6 Geartronic and thought I was buying the most solid car in the world. I'd only driven it about 130 miles when I started the car up to see an Emissions Systems Failure light engage on the dash. My other slight concern is that it takes a bit of time before it starts (2-3 secs).

As this has happened, I've decided to promptly search the web for advice and have become worried about all the negative comments regarding reliability. I'm in the London area and Volvo guys charge around £110 (inc tax) per hour!

Any ideas - anyone know how this can be fixed?

Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks,

D

:cat: Hi there DShox.

Painful and all that it is-go to the agent. Pay their fees. If the job is not done properly-they have to do it again-free.

If you go to an independent mechanic and they work on it-the finer points might still need agent input. So you may as well spend good money once.

I posted an article here about it being cheaper in the UK to see a doctor or a lawyer than it is to see a Volvo agent's mechanic. I think the article is in the General non-specific forum.

I'm sure that your vehicle is only throwing a hissy-fit. If you have the computer checked, up-dated, throttle body cleaned, engine serviced etc, you should be fine. Have you had the cambelt replaced? If not, get it done now. Yes, that will cost coin. But service is cheaper than replacing.

Please keep in touch and let us know your progress.

Cheers :right:

PS Good luck in Australialand-Commonwealth Games .

Don't spend the big money to replace the PCV box and oring. I got the parts my self totalling $45 which included a manifold gasket(yes you have to take the intake manifold off to change the PCV) PCV box, and PCV oring. If your not mechanically inclined then you are better off taking to have it done. Labor on this job should be over $300, if you pay more than that then you are getting screwed! Good Luck !

Thanks for your help. Must correct my model year - its late 98 but I have a 99 manual with it. I think the cambelt was changed recently but as there is no invoice the garage couldnt remember what was done for sure.

I will take the car to Birmingham and use a Volvo mechanic in the outer parts as they will be somewhat cheaper.

I'm semi mechanical it that i tend to attack the job over the whole weekend as opposed to a couple of hours a trained mechanic would take.

Hopefully it'll hold together now.
