> Getting The Back Spark Plug Out, Can't get at it due to brake fluid pipe

Hi,

I want to change my spark plugs as I've no idea how long they've been in the car. The three towards the front of the car are straightforward to get to but I can't get my spark plug socket to the one at the back because of a metal pipe coming from the brake fluid reservoir.

I am using a standard ratchet wrench to remove them. I suppose I could get one of those flexible spark plug removal tools, with a joint just above the socket, but this doesn't resolve the issue of re-fitting the spark plug at the correct torque (25Nm according to Haynes), as this will require use of an inflexible torque wrench, extender and socket.

I don't fancy messing with the brake fluid system!

Any advice?

Thanks!

Michael

Hello Michael

The back plug is hard to reach - I can use a standard Plug Socket and ratchet from a cheap Halfords socket set to get it out and torque it to 22LbFt with a standard Draper Torque Wrench - I take my time - so far no fractured pipes! - it must be a lot easier on a Left Hand Drive Volvo.....

Regards from Yorkshire

Hi Jim,

I don't know how you manage to get your wrenches to the plug - eventually I did it the low-tech way with a bendy spark-plug wrench, hand-tight first then a further half-turn instead of a torque setting. Even this was an almighty struggle!

Engine turns over so can't be too bad...

Cheers

Michael
