:cat: Hi there bgrosman.

I've read postings about replacing light bulbs galore on this site. Some of the problems I recall are:

the system sensors resistance. If the bulbs have the slightest difference in resistance-the computer picks it up as a blown bulb. When you replace one bulb, you should do all the bulbs together on that circuit. At least, that is how I have read it. I might be wrong of course.

I had that problem when I brought the car. One trip to the dealer-got rid of the message and the orange tri-angle too.

Cheers :right:

I had the same problem, here's what I found. It was not a real failure but a loose connection. Turns out that the error code you are getting is one of the lights in the back (at least it was for me) It is very difficult to see during the day, and best to try and view at night. Of course when I took it to the dealer and the code was gone, all lights were working. They told me it would normally be in the back of the car. Code came back again and I looked at the back of my car at night and could see which light was out. I opened the trunk, pushed on the wiring that is connected to that bank of lights and the light came back on. I haven't seen that code since.

I had this and it took me a while to fix.

It was a license plate lamp. Also the lamp holders had filled with water.

Good luck!

Hi
Now Ive just had another problem, my brake lights are out when driving. But when I step on the brake they come on, so the bulbs are fine, all the fuses are fine.
Any ideas?

If you have 2 different brands of bulbs in there it will do it as well

Im talking the Light bulbs. If you have a copper based bulb and a silver based bulb that will keep a message on.

But if it is a bulb failure position light then it is one of the tailight bulbs. One of the 4 smaller bulbs in the trunk.

this is all too familiar. i took mine in on Monday and they replaced a front light light that was dying and the rear licence plate light and the problem went away. but this morning the warning has re-appeared - i think the rear light connection was a suggested possibility by the mechanic - i'll try looking at the connections later.

cheers,

D

Hi I had the same problem, got the dealship to look at it, he told me the same as the next message, the bulbs MUST come out of the same box/manufacturer, otherwise you will continue to have problems as the bulb may have a different resistance as stated before.
I told this to my brother who has a S80 also, and he sorted the same problem out that he was having also. :57:

1999 S80's built up to and including chassis number (the last 6 digits in VIN#) use candle power rated bulbs (yellow inside base) Volvo pn# 965829. After chassis #116810 Volvo switched to watt rated bulbs pn# 965828 (redish brown inside base). The use of the wrong bulbs and/or combinations of the two part numbers can lead to this problem.
