One lovely weekend my alternator decides to give out. Seeing as how I don't know too much about cars in the first place I decided to try and reconnect the red wire that plugs into the alternator. With electricity from my friend's battery running throught my car, the alaram is screeming. It had been disconnected for a while prior to me having it. My friend attempted to get the car moved and juice up the battery, but the alarm was screeming so, like a moron, he cut the wires going to the siren. Well I replace the alternator and had to buy a new battery. I hook up all of it and my hazard light randomly turn on and off like an alarm is going off. I've tried reconnecting all the wiring, but I've come to see that it must have been reset with the battery. How do I turn this off?

My guess is that the alarm is self-testing and detecting that the siren circuit has a fault. Try reconnecting the siren (wear ear-plugs!) then locking & unlocking the car to see whether that then deactivates the alarm.

Good luck.

Ok, before I do that, do you have any other suggestions?

Maybe don't let your friend cut any more wires! :haha:

If all else fails you'll need to get an auto electrician/alarm engineer to check it out I am afraid.

alright, I got ya. My other option I was wondering about is how might I be able to just disbale the entire thing. I don't really want the alarm. I'm stationed here in Naples, Italy and this car is mostly a beater. I don't really care for an alarm. Is there anywhere, like the computer, I can disable it from?

Since the alarm is linked to the central locking module, you'll need to be careful not to affect the operation of the central locking or, of course, the engine immobiliser that is also linked to the central locking.

My guess is that if you cut the power to the alarm control box then once the built-in battery has run down, all will be fine. I would stress that I cannot be sure that cutting the power to the alarm won't affect the central locking or the immobiliser, but I think it will probably be OK. A car alarm shop will be able to safely disable it for a nominal cost, especially if you appeal to their better nature. They might even do it for nothing to save your sanity! A few Euros will be a small price for the peace of mind!

Some after-market alarms such as Fox have a lock on them that can be operated with a special key to disable them. I'm not aware that the standard Volvo unit has this feature, but it is worth asking a dealer just in case.

Let us know how you get on.
