Hi all, I have recently been given a 1.8i which is a great car but has just failed its MOT as the front break pipes need replacing.

I've had a bit of bad luck with garages before and paid what i have found well over the odds. Can anyone qive me a guesstimate as to what this should cost in the UK? And is it a dificult job.

The MOT guy suggeted taking it to a Volvo garage but i'm guessing that will be an expensive option for a £600 car

Cheers

:liebe011: for joining us.

I notice that we have a lot of UK members from Reading. Volvos must be very popular there.

Hopefully several of our UK members shall answer you soon and steer you in the right direction.

Hi DamoD.

Is it the solid pipes or is it the flexible hoses?

I believe it is the solid pipes and they are 'Heavily Corroded'.
Cheers for the replies so far gents.

Is this an expert job or could someone with little under the bonnet expereience give it a go. I am willing to get my hands dirty.

OK. I had a couple of solid brake lines replaced a few years back & found a garage locally that MAKES UP its own solid brake lines to suit whichever car they are working on. I guess that they remove the corroded ones and use them to make up correct replacement shape/length.

Cost was less than half what a dealer wanted and the new pipes were excellent - they looked good & did the job fine.

Therefore my recommendation is to call some garages & see whether they do the same. Otherwise you'll need to use Volvo parts - £££!!!

Interested to know how you get on.
