Hey everyone, new to the forums :)

Some background: My first volvo (also my first car) was a 2000 S80 T6. I was t-boned at an expressway intersection by a nissan xterra doing 2x the speed limit and my car was pushed/dragged sideways so much that the tires came off of the rims. Needless to say my volvo was totaled. My passenger and I both walked away without injuries.

My question is this-- which (if any) warranties are out there that people have had good experiences with and what would they cost?

I am looking to purchase my second S80 and although I did not encounter any problems with my old one(except for some dead bulbs and a steering fluid leak during my 6 months of ownership), I am afraid that the new one could encounter some of the infamous S80 bugs and issues. Do yall think a warranty would even be worth it? I would be buying a 2000/2001 T6.

Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for your responses!

Don't even think about getting a 00/01 S80.
At this point you would have a difficult time getting an after market warranty because of the age and mileage.
If you insist on getting an S80 go for something newer than an '04. My friends who have newer ones are extremely happy with them and if you get a dealer certified one it comes with a pretty hefty warranty.

I might be able to help with this. I bought a 01 S80 T6 with an extended warranty from the dealership. For a two year 20k or 25k mile warranty I paid a little under
2,000 dollars. These warranties are limited to parts and repairs. On a whole I've
been happy with my warranty. They have replaced turbo parts and keyless entry.
By far exceeding the cost I paid for the warranty. I would suggest not getting a 99-00 these for the most part are costly. Volvo worked out the kinks in 01 and buying a 01 should be fine. Volvos are expensive to repair anyway it doesn't matter if you get a 04 or an 01....they all are expensive. Anyway I would definitely get a warranty. Let me know what you decide.

Just curious. At what speed (Nissan) were you struck on the side?
Did inflatable curtian/side impact airbags deploy? (Both sides/struck side?)
Any injuries in other car (Nissan)?

I was going about 15, the nissan was in the police report as being in excess of 40mph. Both front airbags deployed, as well as the side airbags and full-length curtain (but only on my/drivers side). They went off with such a loud crack that I thought I would be deaf in my right ear for a week, and airbags seem to go off with gunpowder or something, because the car was filled with a lot of smoke.

The only thing to happen with the xterra was their rim detatching from the axle (Guess it couldnt handle running over a little volvo haha). I dont know what their airbag situation was. No one in that car was hurt.

Im up at college right now, my computer at home has the pictures of the accident on it. Ill post them next time Im home if anyone is interested.

PS-Nice ferret :)

Yep!!! Looking forward to seeing those photos.

Other than the minor hearing loss....were there any minor cuts or bruises?

I've had the motor mounts break, the throttle body fail, most of the electrical components fail (turn signals , sun roof, power locks, power windows, air bag), shock mounts and something else in the suspension that escapes me at this moment.

Are any of these issues recognized as being frequently problematic by Volvo? Meaning will they treat them the same way as the ETM or other such things Ive heard about them doing? Thanks

you might also consider getting a 3rd party warranty that doesnt care about the make and model and lets you take it to any mechanic of your choice.

i have an "esnurall" warratny and its pretty good, with all the bells and whistles it ran me 800$ CAD for 1yr / 25000KM and pays 1500 per claim

my mechanic says its pretty good, makes my life with a 99 S80 a little peacefull
