I want to purchase Volvo's subwoofer for my 2003 XC70 and will do the install myself. I know some cars come from the factory with the wiring harness for the sub already installed. Does anyone know where exactly where I should look to determine whether my car has the harness or not? If the harness is already there I've heard installing the subwoofer is a breeze.

I do know that installing and pluging in the sub will be easy, but i do not believe that it will function as you wish with out it being loaded into the ecm. The car will probably need to have the sub programmed into it in order for it to give you the sound you want. I only know this because i have run into the Subwoofer application software before.

Bojangles is right. The ECM has to be told to send the "LFE" signal to the sub instead of the speakers.

Thanks for the tip. I can't wait to see how much the dealer will want to do the software update so my sub works correctly. Is it actually a software update or is it a matter of going into the "hidden radio menus" and changing the radio configuration to include the sub. Do you know?

It is actually a software update. The dealer should not charge you too much since they only hook up a cable and push "play".
Don't feel obligated to one dealer. Shop around and ask who will give you a break if you do all of the install. |

Thank you Niko for the information. My sub is coming tomorrow, can't wait. At least now I know what to expect from a dealer. Sounds like a ten minute service visit.
