i have a volvo s60 2.4 tse auto and was very happy with it until i got the message "emmision system service required" i reset the warning light but as soon as i accellerated heavily it came back on.
i see that there is a known fault with the ETM and was trying to find out what it is and could it be connected.

How is she driving? just the same as before the message?

More than likely one of the numerous sensors that monitor the combustion process had failed...got covered in "crud" and is misreading.

Main ones are before and after the Catalytic converter and usually the first to give up the ghost.

Not likely to be connected with the ETM failure. The ETM problems are absolute, and is a control failure rather than having a knock on effect with emisions.

Really need to get the error code, this will clearly indicate what sensor is at fault.

thanks for the reply.

the car reset itself 2 days later but the car had 3 codes in its memory :

130a (air leakage intake intermitant)
91cf (internal fault ECU)
261a (long term fuel trim bank1)

these were from a universal diagnostic reader not volvo's own as volvo wanted big money for the privilage but from what i have since read on the net it leads to the o2 sensor.

a secondary fault is my cruise control wont always switch on but is this because it goes into "limp home mode" even if the message and the light have now gone out.

on 24th Feb im biting the bullet and going to a volvo dealership to get their opinion then take it from there.

ill post the verdict it might help someone else
