I've looked through the forum and saw that most key stuck issues are caused by shift-lock or some other stuck switch.

My volvo has had some electrical damage to it (some leads cut/re-soldered) next to the ECU & Transmition control unit.

Does anyone know if there is some electrical mechanism that may be preventing the key from being removed.
Better yet,
What are the prerequisites for removing the key.
1) In park?
2) power from the battery??
3) Shift lock not stuck?
4) The transmission control module not working properly???

To my knowlege, any key that is locked in the ignition would have to do with the position of the shift lever in an automatic, and i do not believe that there is anything like that in a manual. The key should go in/ come out reguardless of battery power. As long as the shifter is in the park position, the key will come out. It all has to do with the mechanical end of the gearshift position sensor.

Yes it all has to do with the shifter. A stuck/Broke button on the shifter knob will do it as well.
There is a cable that runs from the ignition switch to the shifter. If it is not all the way in park or the knob button is not all the way out the key will not turn off all the way keeping the key in there.
