I don't know if this is right but my Volvo 440 1.6i (N reg) always makes a strange noise on startup.

-You turn the key to the start position, the engine turns and gets running...the revs go to about 2000 rpm then slow down. During this time the engine makes a strange noise, if you put the clutch out and in again (i always start with the clutch in) the noise changes pitch.

I have always had the noise and only thought yesterday to ask the experts!

I am getting the cambelt changed soon so i will get it checked too.

Does/did you have this sound?
