i have lost my volvo s40 key and need a replacement. the dealership has quoted me $400 - $270 for the actual unit and $130 for software and download - anyone know any cheaper method of replacing the ignition key or is the dealership the only way?

I am pretty sure you have to go through a Volvo dealership. You may want to get online and see if another dealership will give you a better price. Or you could Email Volvo North America directly. Its worth a shot.

good luck

That dealership is really trying to rip you off, big time. My dealership - and I just went and asked my service advisor - only charges $265 for EVERYTHING! If you're in NJ, let me know and I'll make sure you get the proper treatment.

Oops. I just noticed - you're in Canada. It still sounds like they're overcharging you, but I'm not sure exactly what the exchange rate is. Still, double what we charge seems excessive.
