The radio wants the code which I know but how do you enter these numbers? It isnt the numbers that you see on the panel... so what is it If its relevant, the cars a 440, not turbo and is an L reg, so it was made in 95(I think)

and I just remembered, is it true that when you put in the wrong password the first time you have to wait 30 mins, then the second time you get it wrong 1 hour and so on? :auto:

Did you try inputting numbers showing on the radio display? The screen doesn't pre-display the security code before you input it - that would defeat the object.

Have a look through the paperwork that came with the car & see whether the radio security code is on a card or plastic strip. If not, you'll need to get the code from a Volvo dealer, who might want you to call in person with the registration document & your driving licence for security reasons. While you're there, ask them about the input method & any time delay - can vary a little between different radio models fitted on the 440, but the time delay you describe is very likely.
