Hope you can help me. I noticed the engine surging the other day while on cruise control. The ride became quite erratic until the cruise kicked out and I got an error message that said 'Performance Reduced'. While this message is up, the cruise will not reengage. This happened after about 15 minutes of highway driving. I shut the car off, then started it again and everything worked fine again for several more miles. Then it happened again, and I got a second message that said 'Engine System Service Urgent'. This sounds expensive!

I was close to home so I left the car in the garage for a while. Later, I drove again, and the car worked fine on a 75 km drive. When returning, I had the same sequence of events repeated. When the Performance Reduced message came up, the cruise immediately kicked out and the engine became quite erratic. The cruise would not reengage, and then the second error message came up.

I am hoping this is something simple. I am thinking it must be electronic because sometimes things work fine and other times they don't. Can anyone offer me some pointers?

I noticed that when a member reported all sorts of frecky things with their cars, Tech usually asked if the throttle body had been cleaned.

Have you had any servicing lately?

I had the same problem. It was the throttle body.... It was cleaned buy the agents, but not 10000 miles later it failed and I still had to get a new one... Perhaps you should get a reconditioned one to standby, then you can swap. Apparently these fail very often and repeatedly. I forgot to keep my old one...

Actually i understand how you can feel, i had exactly the some problem on my S80 T6 about 2 weeks ago, and the problem was the cumputer of the Throttle Body.

The repair cost is 1 500$, and guess what, you're luky.. :00000732: just like i'm. They're a recall on that part, so it'll cost 0$, Volvo cover the charges.

So just take it to a Volvo dealer, it'll take maximum of 5 hours to repair and you car'll run as a new.
