Hi just purchased a 96 440gs2.0i, 70,000 miles. reasonably well looked after, serviced at regular intervals. i was wondering what sort of fuel consumption i should be getting, both around town and on longer drives.
I drive quite smoothlyly and dont thrash it through the gears, even though i dont hang about either. Fuel gauge is working but dont trust it really. can you help. cheers.CTJ :57:

I have a Volvo 440 1.6 and that does about 36.8mpg around town, 51.8mpg - 75mph+

Fill your tank right up and zero your trip meter before pulling away. Next time you re-fill, make a note of the milage on trip meter and how many litres it takes to fully re-fill.

litres divided by 4.546 = gallons.

Divide ammount of fuel taken to re-fuel (in gallons) by milage on trip meter.

This will give you the average mpg your car gives you, as you go about your day to day business.

More accurate than going off the suburban / extra urban figures.

Hope this helps.

Stu.
