Hi all! Just bought a used 93 80 GLT. Love the car in all ways except one: the "shiftlock" button next to the automatic gearshift is sticking pretty bad. Most of the time I have to press it down to move the shift-lever from Park to Drive. Then when I go to shut the car off, the button sometimes stays stuck down, and I cannot remove the key.
Is there a way to "easily" remove this "feature"? Can I disengage the ignition key locking feature. I don't mind pushing the button to get out of Park. That can be a good safety item. But I'd really like to be able to get my key out of the car when the button sticks? Do I need to replace 'shiftlock' button to fix it? Thanks in advance for all you help! |

Try oiling it a bit first.
If you want to replace it later, there's instructions over at Volvospeed. |

Thanks! I did put some WD-40 on it (twice), but to no avail. I suspect the "sticking" is happening under the switch somewhere. "volvospeed", huh? I'll take a look.
It just worries me that someday the "linkage" (either mechanical or electrical) between the 'shiftlock' button and hte ignition lock will someday break and the key will be permanantly stuck. That's why I was hoping to disengage the feature. Thanks forf the help. Wish me luck! This site is awsome! It so nice to see people helping each other out this way. This is my first time on any website like this. (I'm an old geezer, and don't know much about these new fangled computers). |
