I recently came across a 1980 242 DL. It's in very good shape and I'm considering making it into a GT clone. As far as I know, the GT's:
1) Only came in Silver and Black (I think red, but they were earlier)
2) Had exterior stripes and orange striped interior
3) 15" Virgo rims
4) Fog lights in the grill
5) Front 'chin' spoiler (air dam)
6) Vented front rotors
7) Bigger sway bars
8) Gas shocks and struts
9) GT Steering wheel

Is there anything I'm missing? Instrument cluster / gauges?

-Thanks, Ken

The red was a repaint. So, only silver, except for 200 cars built for the Canadian market in 1980. But, yes, that's pretty much it. They also had a black headliner, like the turbo/GLT cars. 1978 cars had no sunroof, 1979-80 cars had the sunroof.

1978: 21/18 sway bar setup, lower chassis braces, reinforcement plates on the strut assemblies, and heavier springs in the front. 1992 240's also have pretty much the same sway bar setup and also may have the heavier springs.

1979: 21/23 sway bar setup, upper chassis braces, reinforcement plates and heavier springs in the front.

1980: 23/21 sway bar setup, no braces, stock DL/GL springs. Identical to 240 Turbo or GLT models.

1978-79 cars also had black "elephant ear" manual mirrors, only adjustable from outside the car, and had the front air dam. 1980 cars had the plastic rectangular mirrors that were adjustable from the inside, like all other 1980-85 lower end cars and had the "snowshovel" style front spoiler. 1978-79 cars used the 20-spoke 14" GT alloys with 185/70R14 Pirelli CN36 tires. 1980 cars used the Virgos with 195/60R15 Pirelli P6 tires. Interior-wise, 1978-79 cars had the orange trim on the dash and a 130 mph speedometer, whereas the 1980 cars seem to all have the black dash trim, and of course had an 85 mph+140 km/h speedometer. Non-US cars had a 200 km/h speedometer, except in the UK, where they would've had the 120 mph bilingual speedometer.
