My driver's side exterior mirror has what looks like a light on the underside (that doesn't appear to have any function), and it's fallen out and hanging by its wires. It won't snap in... it just keeps falling out. I guess I have to go back to the dealer again...

Does anyone know what that "light" is for? (It's not the flasher light on the front and side... it's underneath)

Paul, It is a "safe" light. If you press and hold the yellow button on your key fob they light up in addition to the parking and rear lights so you can see around the vehicle. Not really very usefull unless you drop something (besides your keys haha) around the car when it is dark.

I had the same problem twice. the first time was when my car was one month old. I took it to the dealers service and they fixed it for free.

My 2006 S40 recently did the same thing. I have it taped up for the moment until I can get to the dealership to have it repaired.

did they take this out of the 2007 2.4i? I can see little grey pieces on the bottom, but no light, or if someone could take a pic of theirs

Lights of this type are also called "puddle lights". Not sure if it's because they produce a puddle of light or because they can very nicely illuminate a puddle of water right under your door that you would otherwise step in.
