New here & been scanning thru the s40 posts. I have 2006. Anybody still having AC or sunroof drain issues, mysto klunk sounds, stereo issues & any other of the common problems on 2004-2005s? What if any common problems should I look out for on later 2005s or 2006s so far? I don't have turbo or awd, just geartronic 2.4 (actually this is wife's car)................

I have the '05 and the only 'quirk' was the premium sound system reading only one preset station a couple of times. The software update fixed it. No drain AC or Sunroof issues or anything major.

Well, 1st time under hood to do oil change & not so impressed. Why does the battery have fresh air ducted to it? Why has the battery leaked acid down on tray then onto body & frame? Not cool. Why are all the grounding terminals under the hood starting to show signs of corrosion? Why is there no seal on the front of the hood to keep rainy day crap & dust from being blown all over the motor? Not cool. This car has only 5k of paved road only wife going to & from work miles on it & under the hood looks worse than on my 40k mazda driving same roads. & yes this car has already had some sort of reflash to get the heat to work. No heat would come in on any setting.

Um, battery leaking and heat not working are way more than 'quirks'. You got some bad equipment methinks. I have not had anything like that but I would get the dealer to fix it.

I agree with Niko!

I have about 5K miles on my 05 S40, 5-6 month owned, I leave in a versatile weather, snow, rain, sun, heat, you name it and my engine is still very clean. No corrosion (wich doesn't always mean trouble when not steel). No problem so far other then brake noise only while in reverse going down hill and even that seams to go away now... I have been in both cars and I like the quality feel much better on the Volvo.. . only main issue is the wind shield wipers wich sucks during freezing+rain weather. I'll have to ask about that at my next visit. They are also a little slow in heavy rain but it is hard to judge anyway.

Agree that the hood needs a seal on the front to stop all the dust ending up all over the engine bay. I just have a simple solution, once a month I park my baby outside in my yard, luckily the house is has walls around the entire yard so the car is safe, and I take my high pressure hose cleaner first thing in the morning and give the engine bay a quick spray to clear away the dust. I will not do this after the car has run even for 5 seconds. As for strange clunking noises, I have a strange one that is almost impossible to duplicate for the dealer, sometimes when my front wheels are at full lock and as you ease of there is a clunk/crack type noise or if you press the brakes whilst moving in bumper to bumper traffic for a extended period of time. But thats it.
