New to this forum lookin to glean useful info for my wife's 2006 S40. She also had 2004 S60 so we have 2 years in 2 different Volvos now. I have 2003 mazda protege5 & am member there for my car. Haven't done much to either of the volvos since they are the wife's car. Just good fluids, filters, cleanings & that's been about it. I do all the modding & tuning stuff on my car. S40 has 5k on it so time for fresh oil. Any problems with castrol syntech 10-30 full synthetic or eurospec 0-30w german syntec & oem filter. I have both oils on hand. We are in the south so no winter action. Greetings to all in the new forum. Volvo Newbie

i'd go 15-30 due to your weather. oem filter (aka mann) is the best. i perfer mobil 1 to castro.

It seems like the castrol stays the same as out of the bottle from oil change to oil change where the mobil 1 gets a little more discolored from how it came out of the bottle. I think the s40 has syntec blend but I don't do blends & not waiting until 7500 miles to do 1st change which is the free one from the dealer. |
