This past summer I changed my engine (170kmiles). I pulled it from the top with an engine hoist. Disconnect cv joints, all the hoses, wires, AC compressor, exhause pipe. I left the brake system in the car. I had to take the intake manifold off to get to the starter and wires. I left the transmission on the engine.

Take pictures, label and bag small parts. Take it apart in some sort of order, lay the parts out in order so that when you put the new engine in you can remember this order.

Get a few friends to help in the actual lifting of the engine - it is heavy. Have some pizza and soda ready.

Start a new thread and we can work thru engine removal and reinstall.

I have seen it done many ways.

1. The engine pulled and trans left in. (From the top).

2. Engine and trans pulled from the top.

3. Subframe dropped with engine and trans.

Yup, lots of ways. Any way you look at it you'll have to deal with the weight. The trany is 100+ pounds, then engine, with all its little parts, makes the chain of a chain hoist sing like a guitar string. BE CAREFUL and keep your fingers out of the possible drop path. Better to lose a frame or engine then a finger. I call it "dangerously heavy".

After you remove the fan (you'll probably do this on all types of methods) cover the radiator with a piece of wood to protect it from damage while getting all the other pieces out. My wood was pretty scratched up by the time I was done.

Have fun and take your time.
