Has anyone experienced this message before with the S60 reducing the speed to not exceed ove 20mph and puttering. This looks to me like it maybe water in gas tank however i have also had the infamous check engine light on for the past 3 weeks... any suggestions ??

Thanks all, Mehmet

Probably the infamous Electronic Throttle Module (ETM). The car is in "limp home" mode, with the ETM basically shut down. As I understand it, the throttle valve is open to its default setting to basically allow the engine to run at a fast idle.

Hi, I have a 2001 S80 with the identical problems of the message showing "Performance Reduced." Having the ETM replaced recently, I am assumming that it was not properly installed. If I turn the car off and let it sit it will reset itself and I can continue driving. However, I have no idea when it will do it again or how long in between. Is this harmful to the engine or transmission?

I have a similar problem on my 2001 S60- a 'performance reduced' sign comes up that rendsers the car into 'limp mode'. mechanic has said that its the 'throttle body'- are these expensive parts and does it actually solve the problem?

Pretty expensive, I have serious problems at the moment - just 'limped home' about 15miles and wasn't impressed.

So far i've had the following codes...
P0121
P1603
P1608
P1609
P1652
P0030
P1601

Dealer can't do anything till new year and cost is likely to be around £500.
If like me your driving a 2001 then you're over the 10 year extended warranty on the part too!
