> Xenon Upgrade Low Beam Failure (2005 - V50), Installed HID's low beams get LBF

I installed a Xenon light kit for the low beams with separate fused power feed and relay switched from the factory lights. After the installation, the I got a low beam failure message in the message center and the lights went off. There was a buzzing in the dash but I could not locate it. I checked under the glove box but there is only a fuse tray, nothing under the drivers side that I could see.

Without starting the car, the lights come on and stay on. Only when the car is started do the low beam light go out and the buzzing starts. The relay pulls less amps than the factory halogen lamp and I think that is why the computer thinks that the light is burn't (failed). Any help with fixing this problem is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi S60R!

This fix is not possible for the V50 as it does not have the same setup as the S60, V70. The low beams are powered through the CEM (central electronic module) located under the glove box. This is different compared to the S60, V70. If you have info for the V50 that would be great!

Cheers....

The S60/V70/S80 are all powered through the CEM, and it sounds like yours is too. If they are all powered through the CEM, and the CEM's are similar, it should work even if on diff sides of the dash. Did u look at the shunt to see if it was similar? IF the CEM's and/or shunts are diff and it wont work, there was contact information on that website or call the manufacturer

I will have to take a look at the CEM again but I remember it eing quite different from the S60/V70. The largest component on the CEM is the size of a relay (1"x1" approx). It is very difficult to get to, there is a tray that allow if to come out a bit but I will have to disconnect a few wires and completely remove it to get a good look.

As for contacting the manufacturer, good luck with that one. I tried a couple of times only to get the dear in the head lights to so speak. Either the dear or, bring the car in and I can have one of my techs try to figure it out....$100/hr bunny trail, no thanks....

I will consider using the contact info on the website once I have got a good look at the CEM and I cannot determine which resistor (if at all accessible) needs to be replaced with one of higher resistance.

Anymore tips, please send along.

Cheers....
