Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the lighting system of the V50? I installed a Xenon light kit for the low beams with separate fused power feed and relay switched from the factory lights. Basically the relay is powered throught the factory light plug which closes contacts through the relay bringing power to the ballast and HID. After the installation, the I got a low beam failure message in the message center and the lights went off. There was a buzzing in the dash but I could not locate it. I checked under the glove box but there is only a fuse tray, nothing under the drivers side that I could see.

Without starting the car, the lights come on and stay on. Only when the car is started do the low beam light go out and the buzzing starts. The relay pulls less amps than the factory halogen lamp and I think that is why the computer things that the light is burn't (failed). Any help with fixing this problem is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello,

I'm not sure how to help, but I have a similar problem. I started my car today, and the warning light came on. Warning message says "low beam failure". Both my headlights DO NOT work on low beam, only on high beam. My signal lights work, but no headlights. Is this a bulb issue, or wiring? I can't understand it to be bulbs if both of them went out at the same time. Can anyone help?

I am having the same problem with a 1999 S80. I have no low beams but I have high beams and all the other lights working fine. I pulled all the fuses and checked the bulbs and they are fine. Does anyone know the answer????

Hi,
I don't know that Volvo use the same system as the German brands, but what happens is that the test system puts a low voltage through the lights system and measures the drop/ampage. Should the reading not be what it expects, it will flag an error and turn the lights off to prevent a short circuit scenario.
I can only imagine that the impedance of your relay is nowhere near the same as that for a bulb. Try taking an AVO meter across the stock bulb and then another reading across the relay. By using inline resistors you can increase the impedance and by putting the resistors in parallel to the relay (hardly likely you'll need this, but) you can reduce impedance.
Give a test first with AVO meter and see what happens.

I did resolve the LBF with a resistor. Since the amp draw of the relay is much lower that that of the factory halogen, load needed to be added to the circuit to bring the amps back to a level the computer expects to see. I was hoping to bypass this on the computer and not have to add a resistor but for now the resistor works fine.

Hi,

I'm encountering the same issue after and HID upgrade on my Volvo S60. I know it drains less amperage than the standard halogens, which is triggering the "bulb failure" message sporatically at times. I would like to resolve this by adding the resistor, such as you did, but I'm not quite sure how to do this. Would you be able to help me out?
