if it feels very spongy try pushing down on each corner of the car and seeing how long it takes to stop rocking. if it wobbles more than three or four times the shock absorbers need to be replaced. otherwse check all the suspension links, anti roll bar and the springs for wear/damage. also park on a flat surface and check the car sits level.
finally, though obvious, check tyre pressures, tyre tread and wheel nuts just in case. good luck.

If the car seems to handle o.k. it'll be worth checking the rear suspension bushes.

Your suspension components might be o.k. but with shot bushes, vibrations / noise / bumps, can be transmitted throughout the car, and give the symptons you describe.

Let us know how you get on.

Stu.
