Hey Hi,

Well, I do own an S40 2001 and I've had the misfortune of loosing my owners manual.

It would be just great if you could send me a copy of the manual.

Thanks in advance

Where to get genuine Volvo schematics, diagrams and repair information:

After wanting to do some basic maintenance on my 2001 S40 and finding a good repair shop in my area, I talked to the owner about getting a repair book or the like for my S40. Now, up to this point I had purchased a set of CDs from eBay which had some info, but it was painful and difficult to navigate the menu and I never found any useful info. He recommended a place called Alldata.com - this is the place his shop, as well as many others I imagine, use as a repair manual for Volvos, as well as other cars. As a shop, he has to pay several hundred dollars a month (I think it was something like $600) to use this service. However, as an individual owner, you can get access for ~$25 a year. For those of you who don't want to renew every year you could just pull up everything you think you'll ever need in the course of a year and print it out.

It's not always as easy to navigate as I'd like, but it is hands down the best place I've found for infomation. Sometimes you have to search multiple areas and explore every thread it pulls up under the subject you're looking under before you find what you're looking for. In any case, it's never taken me more than five minutes to find something.

As an example, my blinkers were not always coming on when I used my turn signal and I found out it was due to the hazard switch. After spending nearly $35 dollars on the switch alone, the shop told me they'd put it in for $60 and it would take them an hour because it was a tricky job. I went to alldata, printed out the instructions on replacing the hazard switch and had it done in less than 20 minutes without a nick to the console.

This site is also nice for other cars. It's like an additional $15 if you add more than one car.

I also found some other forms that discuss unlocking some cool features in the stock radio (the HU-615 in the case of a 2001 S40) like making the volume go up or down automatically when you speed up or slow down and displaying your speed in km/hr. Let me know if you're interested and I'll post the links here.

I hope this helps some of you.

Inquires of my own:

If anyone has any recommendations on getting genuine Volvo repair parts and/or accessories at less than full retail price, I would be greatful.

Also, I just discovered Volvo, or someone, sells accessories like a pocket to put in the gap created if you replace the dual-deck stock radio with an aftermarket one. I also saw a center console replacement that adds two cup holders in place of the storage compartment. If anyone has info or knows where to get these items, or if you've seen other nifty Volvo accessories, please reply with the info. Thanks!

some of the manuals are available for download online, otherwise you can order them online or at your local dealership. as for diagrams and schematics, i dont know if those are available for free but you can always ask.

no problem, i know how hard it can be to find stuff online sometimes. with a little searching on that site, most manuals can be found.

Hi there,

I bought my car second hand and the previous owner had a V70 handbook instead of an S40 handbook. Would be great if you could send me a copy of the S40 book. My e-mail is: whitham_is@hotmail.com

Many Thanks

Nick
