I think I may need to replace the battery on my 2001 S40 soon. I have not found the battery listed in a couple of parts houses. Is it a factory only replacement or available from other sources. I am approx. 50 miles from nearest dealer.

Thanks!

:sunce: Should be able to buy one from any decent auto store. I find an alternative can be just as good as the factory fitted for a fraction of the cost. Just be sure the output is the same and it'll fit! None of my previous cars had factory fitted batteries and ran fine.

be sure you do need to replace the battery !! may sound a bit stupid but there is a lot that could be wrong with your s40 that may make you jump for a new battery. if your car is anything like mine...its lazy...waits...teases me...and ...eventually decides to start everytime....VOLVO...ha ha.

You could just check the the battery levels, (electrolyte level should be just above the plates), top up with distilled water as needed.
Should save you from buying new.

Unless your plates are buckled or you have a sealed battery, ie maint' free.

Let us know how you get on.

Stu.

It always starts on the second revolution, no problem. It just seems to turn slow. The last time I had an oil change (not at Volvo dealer as it is 50 miles away), they checked cranking amps and they came up at about 50% of rated. Just trying to prevent being stranded at an inopportune time!!

Thanks for the replies! :liebe011:
