Hello all - this is my first post. Happy to find the Volvo Forums. I usually just read, but I have my “first question” and need some advice/info.

Does anybody know what the factory spec is for engine idle on a 2001 V70 T5? Mine (or I should say the wife’s) is idling at about 500-600 RPM according to the tachometer. I had not been in the car for a while and noticed it today. Seemed to be a little rough. Just wondering because I drive a 2004 S60 and I’m usually at 800-900 RPM at idle.

Do I need to adjust it or could this be a indicaton of an Engine Control Unit failure? I've read on the net it could be poor gas quality too, but I cant seem to find the factory spec to see if I even have a problem.

Thanks in advance…
Jay

The throttle plate may be a little sticky from oil or carbon residue and may just need cleaning.

Hey mate I agree with Starfish.

Use an air intake cleaner that cleans the idle buuerfly flap and whole throttle body.

I have a Sept 2000 mark 2 V70 2.4SE(170bhp) manual and just had it cleaned on Saturday gone. It idles perfectly at 800 rpm.

I had a problem when changing down coming to a set of lights, as it dropped to 500 - 600 and occasionaly stalled.

It now runs like a dream!

I used the "Forte" Air Intak Clenare!

Excellent!

Get it done and happy idling!

Neil

Cleaning the throttle body on a US P2 car take a bit of work. Here are the directions

The real problem I had was the infamous ETM failure which dealer replaced for free.
