Volvo 1992 Volvo 460 1.8 5-speed Renault engine
The car was running fine and as I was going out of the parking lot in first gear the car suddenly stopped and it would not start back again not even with a push with a car. The fuel pump is working fine. The problem I see is that there is no spark to the sparkplugs. The rotor is turning fine as well as all the belts (including the timing belt)

Need help in getting some troubleshooting ideas

Oscar

If your engine is cranking but you get no spark check the ignition coil and the lead from the centre of the ignition cap to the coil.

I assume you're holding the electrode of the plug against a good earth with engine cranking when checking for a spark.

Let us know how you get on.

Stu.

...and if the coil & king lead are OK, even though the rotor arm is turning, suspect a worn/dirty rotor arm or a cracked/worn/dirty or loose distributor cap.

Best of luck Oscar, do let us know how you get on.

thank you "billie", "I have a nut leftover", and "Black Beauty T4" for your kind replies.

- The engine itself does turn. I checked the timing belt and is goos and not loose.
- Distributor cap is good and clean
- Rotor arm was clean and an ohm reading from the center of the rotor arm read good, I put a new rotor arm anyway and also replaced the distributor
- Yesterday fuel was coming out of the hose going into the fuel distributor but today NO FUEL I think is a fuel problem now

I replaced the ignition coil -twice- and no luck.

Bottom line: I will troubleshoot the reason for the lack/abscence of fuel

Is there a Fuel pump isolation switch on your car? See if it is enabled etc.

Best of Luck

OK, so assumption is that in fact you do have a spark but no petrol.

Try carefully (gloves, safety glasses & an empty glass jar to catch petrol recommended) detaching fuel line just before it reaches the injector system, then get a helper to crank the engine. If fuel pumps out nicely, then suspect a blockage in the injector system.
