WOW! Have I got a good potential fix for you. Start burning 93 octane gasoline. Once every couple fillups add Techtron fuel injector cleaner, (comes in an 8 Oz or so black bottle with red lettering and can be found at any decent auto parts store) to your full tank of premium gosoline. This often loosens up the accumulated varnish and other impurities that can gum up your fuel guage over time. I have had this work on a 940 AND a 960. If you follow this process for a couple thousand miles or so and it fails, you may have to replace your fuel pump with the guage as they are together inside the gas tank. If you must do this, don't get a used one, get a new one from Volvo. If you get one from a junkyard it may be in the same boat as the one you are replacing. Please keep your tank at least 1/4 full at all times as well as this model is suseptible to fuel pump burnout as the fuel in your tank is used to keep the fuel pump cool and when the level gets too low the pump can get hot. Not a cheap fix either. Around $400. I sold my 940 at 158k miles and loved it. It was running great when sold as well. Great cars! Good Luck, reply if this makes no sense and I will clarify. God Bless, Jeff
