If a/the previous owner can't help you, A trip to a volvo dealership may be in your future. Bring the car, bring ID, bring proof the car's not stolen. (Don't take the radio out and bring it to them or try to do it over the phone, they might not help you)

Best case scenario, your radio is the one put in at the factory, and they can cross reference it from your VIN number. Likely case scenario, they'll pull out your radio to check the serial number on it, and charge you labor. Worst case scenario is you have to buy a new radio.

The twist is, the labor the dealership charges you may be more than the cost of a radio w/code on eBay. So you'll have to see what option is most cost effective for you.

Additionally, if you haven't read the owner's manual, your radio gives you several chances to put in the correct code. When you don't, it will lock up on you, assuming you're not the rightful owner. Your car will then need to sit with the ignition in the acc position, (engine off, radio on) for two consecutive hours before it will unlock and let you try to put new codes in.

I just called my volvo dealer, gave them the VIN code. They told me the code over the phone. You may have to visit them with your registration. They don't bite.
